Principal's Message 2020-2021 School Year
Dear North Ridge Families:
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! We are thrilled to welcome our North Ridge families and scholars back to school! As you know, North Ridge was one of nine schools in Riverside County recognized in January as a 2020 California Distinguished School. While our school will begin with “Distance Learning,” our terrific team of teachers will continue to teach our scholars through online learning platforms such as Google Classroom, Zoom, and Screencastify in order to provide engaging and challenging learning experiences including STEAM activities. We are so proud of all our teachers who have put in an immense amount of effort to prepare and provide distance learning lessons for our scholars. Additionally, we are grateful to our Superintendent Dr. Kedziora and our School Board for providing every Moreno Valley student with a Chromebook.
Our continued commitment to our home-school partnership will help your children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally especially with the help of our school counselor, Mrs. Holguin-Stiles. In fact, we were one of several schools in Moreno Valley recognized this past summer by the state of California as a “2020 Community Cares School” for our continued support of the social-emotional learning of our students and well-being of our families during the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting disruptions to our school community. Our school is so successful, in part, because of the tremendous parental support we experience through our active Booster Club, School Site Council, English Learner Advisory Committee, and African-American Parent Advisory Committee.
A few changes at North Ridge: We would like to say good-bye to Mrs.Taylor, 4th grade teacher, and Mr. Wigginton, 3rd grade teacher, who both retired this year and to Ms. Katona, assistant principal, who took on a new role as Academic Administrator of Instructional Improvement and Academic Coaching. They will be missed. Welcome to Mrs. Shelly Craig, 1st/2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Chelsey Katona, 4th grade teacher, Ms. Jacqueline Banks, RSP teacher, Ms. Jenifer Rojas–Brito, Instructional Assistant, Ms. Jillian Bell, Instructional Assistant, Ms. Daniella Signorelli, Instructional Assistant, and to our new assistant principal, Mr. Greg Morton.
To our parents, please know that remote learning is new for all of us. Here are a few words of wisdom: (1) Make and maintain a schedule for your child; (2) Remember this is not a typical school day and sitting in front of a computer screen from 8:00-3:00 is not reasonable; (3) Brain breaks and physical activity are so important; (4) There is going to be a learning curve for all of us and we know that we all learn at different rates; (5) Be supportive of your child and the teacher and celebrate small successes; (6) We’re all going to figure this out as we go along and we need to give each other the grace and the space to meet everybody’s needs the way they are.
Here is one of my favorite quotes, which is so appropriate at this time, “It is good advice to slow down a little, steady the course, and focus on the essentials when experiencing adverse conditions.”
We know your child will be successful when we work together to teach the North Ridge 4 “B”s expectations at home and at school. These same 4 “B” expectations are meant for staff and parent interaction as well. We are all role models for your children and our students. So always remember: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, & Be Kind. Finally, one of the greatest characteristics of the North Ridge learning community is the genuine care and compassion shared among staff, students, and parents. Thank you for allowing us to take care of your child during the day. They are truly amazing. We are looking forward to an incredible year!
Sincerely your administrative team,
Wade N. Hamilton, Principal Greg Morton Assistant Principal
